The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is an independent humanitarian agency established in 1984 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the specific purposes of individual and community development and disaster relief.
The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations granted ADRA general consultative status in 1997. ADRA SA (SAU) Registered as NPO in SA on 22 August 2000.
ADRA South Africa seeks to provide humanitarian, development and disaster relief assistance irrespective of culture, gender, origin or religion, and to give the necessary training for services which may include: Primary Health; Economic Development; Disaster Relief; Food Security; Poverty Alleviation and Basic Education.
ADRA South Africa is part of an international network that spans more than 125 countries.
ADRA is currently one of the leading non-governmental relief organizations in the world. In 1997 the agency was granted General Consultative Status by the United Nations, a unique opportunity giving ADRA an added voice in the international community. In 2004 it assisted nearly 24 million people with more than US$159 million in aid. More than 4,000 ADRA staff members currently work in 125 countries. As new challenges and needs arise, ADRA continues to strive to realize its mission of reflecting God’s love through compassionate acts of humanitarian service.
